Battlegrounds

This an an illustration for the last in a series of articles about the battleground states Florida, Michigan, Virginia, and Colorado prior to the election. I drew the animals representing those states dressed in military regalia.
I would like to point out that Steven Heller, when asked what the future of illustration was, said the next big thing would be Anthropomorphism, the attribution of uniquely human characteristics to non-human creatures and beings, natural and supernatural phenomena, material states and objects or abstract concepts. "In hard times — and we can all agree the economy is not making life easy — people take refuge in fantasy and derive hope (or at least relief) from satire. These ingredients have historically resulted in anthropomorphic depiction in art and illustration"

I quite like these illustrations. I agree with that quote, it does seem that people dive into fantasy worlds when things get rough.

Steven Heller is spot on. Anthropomorphism is a theme that is seen time and again through art history and I think you've hoped the right train!
